Regeneron aims to have coronavirus antibody treatment ready for human testing by early summer

Biotech giant Regeneron said it aims to have doses of a potential drug for COVID-19 ready to start human clinical trials by early summer.

The approach involves creating antibodies to the virus that could be used to treat the disease and to prevent it, Regeneron said in a statement Tuesday.

The company had previously said it aimed to have hundreds of thousands of doses ready for human testing in late summer, so the new goal is a significant acceleration. Regeneron said it plans to start large-scale manufacturing by the middle of next month and still plans to ramp up to hundreds of thousands of preventive doses a month by the end of summer.

If you don't want to temporarily stop wearing them, take off your rings and wash them with warm water and soap every time you wash your hands.

A 2018 study from researchers at Georgia State University found that when healthcare providers wore rings to their jobs, the area where the rings sat on their skin provided "a protected area in which bacteria can flourish," the researchers wrote. They also found that people who didn't wear rings and washed their hands were able to kill more bacteria than those who wore rings.

"Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Tuesday that millionaires would not be getting the checks. A Democratic proposal from Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) would give at least $1,000 to everyone making less than $65,000. They point out about 75 percent of Americans would qualify.

A Democratic plan from Senators Michael F. Bennet of Colorado, Cory Booker of New Jersey and Sherrod Brown of Ohio, would go even further. It provides $2,000 for every American adult and child plus another $1,500 check in the summer and $1,000 check in the fall, if the public health emergency continues. The highest income earners would not get checks under the Democratic plan."
