Are you talking about the stripes wrapping around the leading edge of the front header panel?
Usually about a 3/16 +/- is blown under the edge with most painters passing along the front edge. I don't think factory header panels were much different and likely varied as Sam stated. Once the grill stiffener is in you can't see beyond 1/4" or so. Mine ended just before the grill stiffener when looking from underneath and I think this was normal practice.

If you mean on the engine compartment side, on my VN car the black stripes extended all the way down to the bottom edge of the header panel.
