Restoring Trim

Hi , what is the recommended process for removing anodize from original aluminum trim that won’t eat the aluminum so it can be polished. ??

Last time I did it I used Drano crystals I got at the box store, HD oven cleaner my still work as well . Keep an eye on it and don't leave it overnight
Also check out the videos on you tube, that my be helpful too.
I did the rear panel moldings on my 69 Chevelle and cleared them and polished the clear.

HD oven cleaner and some 0000 steel wool then tap the dents out, file sand and polish.
They will oxidize fairly quickly if you don't re-anodize them- OR maybe clear powder coat, GUESS you could use catalyzed clear coat/however if it chips or scratches it will tarnish.

you can buy a powder to mix with water. Eastwood used to sell it. I didn't have good luck with oven cleaner.

I haven't myself (yet), but it is a brite-dip anodize not the trim so it should be the right stuff. If you do try it, please report back.

I stripped the anodized surface on moldings from my 71 Nova. Polished them to a chrome-like finish and sprayed Boeshield T-6 on them to protect ... Craig
