|  72 Chevelle SS with no paperwork.Any clues. 
			
			I have a chance to buy this car but it has no paperwork.Can anyone see any clues if it is authentic or not? Thanks in advance. |

			Didn't the VIN note which engine the car was built with starting in 1972?

			Yes, but only a W-code would guarantee an SS.

			If it is a 454 car the VIN will have a W in it. A 396 car will have a U in the VIN

			I don't think a U would determine an SS. Only a W, although a non-SS U would be neat.

			They actually made a SS 350 2bbl ,350 4 bbl,402, and 454 in 1972..Also u could order the ss stripe pkg on a malibu along with the round gauges etc....vin will tell u all but the 402 as u could get a malibu 400 with the 402 non ss car..

			Also, the 71-72 SS optioned cars got 12-bolt rears except for the 350 2bbl. Those came from the factory with a 10-bolt.
