I use CITRIC ACID (comes in powder form) they are 6 oz bottles available at Walmart in the canning section -it is added as a preservative.
However it is a mild -natural -bio degradable acid and it is CHEAP! Use about 3 bottles for 5 gallons of HOT WATER... it works EXACTLY like evaporust - smells the same and turns dark yellow after using it. Each bottle of powder is less than $2.00 locally.
