I have posted a number of photos like this one. This "issue" seems to happen to "rubber band" tires. Does anyone know how or why this happens?

It's the result of a band separation.

I have to believe that the low profile tires have less sidewall to cushion an impact, like a pothole, making them more susceptible.

Thanks for that clarification. What I was getting at was that the 396 was available as a 2V for passenger cars while both the 427 + 454 2V were truck engines.
