I would love to see a day one pic of the engine bay with the l78 in it. I have learned to never say never. I agree with the special order green because of the o-o paint code.

Clippinger ordered at least 2 other L78 cars, built at the same time as your car, and were also dark green. One is a possible dealer modified car. Your car would not have received an L78 from the factory, especially since 2 L78's were actually ordered at the same time and both are 4K cars. So the dealer only tried to save money on your car and not the others? That's not how the ordering process worked - either a L48 engine or an L78 engine was ordered and the proper body was then built. As a SS350 car, I would question that your car was dealer converted to a 427 car, especially that late in the year. They would start with a big block, normally an L78 so they could reuse the most components. And have the right engine mounts, heater core, radiator, etc. And your car 124377L157826 still has a SB heater core.

Kurt I understand where your coming from I asked bob several times why he ordered the car the way he did he told me the same thing over and over it was cheaper to order it as a 350 car and a 396 engine to get the running gear and he could recouped some money by saling the 396 . I know it's not by the book but this is the way bob wingate did this car please Google bob wingate he had lots of pull at gm

Wingate was the top vette salesman in the country, and if memory serves he orchestrated the L88 cars for Garner's A.I.R. team through Harbor Chevy. |

What you are saying is in direct conflict with the two cars that were ordered as L78's at the exact same time by the same guy. It's either ordered as a 350 car or a 396 car. I don't care who ordered it - you couldn't order it both ways at the same time. That's like ordering a convertible coupe. No docs that I know on the other two cars.
