Motion referred to them as "status emblems." Or at least someone did in an old Cars Magazine.

I'm not sure whats cooler ... the emblems or the Motion packaging ... I need to pick up a set of even the repops just to add to my overflowing emblem collection

the orig owner of my 68 Camaro did not want them installed on the car
so Motion gave him a set.

I got them from a guy down in Mississippi. He explained "I ordered them from the Motion Performance catalog around 1970 - 1971. I had always hoped I would one day have a nice Chevy where I could attach these to the sides of the cowl induction hood, so I've been carrying
them [and that pipe dream] around for some 40 years. It's time to move on..."

It amazes me how much cool stuff is still hiding out there!

Probably for two reasons. One, he didn't want to scare-off potential street races and two, he didn't want "steal-me" bait.
