Re: '69 L78 Water Pump rebuild
Ha, you have a good point there Rick!
No joy from Goulds for a correct pump. Found this statement on the "infallible" internet: "In April of 1969 a modification was made to pump #065 and it was assigned a new casting number (#3969811). " Is this true? If so I may be able to use an 811 from April/May. Thanks,

Re: '69 L78 Water Pump rebuild
That seems to support the statement I read. So his "811" on ebay should be correct. Anyone know this fellow?

Re: '69 L78 Water Pump rebuild
I will always defer to the 'gurus' of the SYC...
But, isn't that component date a little too close to the engine assembly date? I don't know where the water pumps were produced and/or how long it took to get them to the engine plant...but, there are only 4 days between the pump and the engine. I would think a little more time would have been needed...we are talking about 1969, things didn't happen that fast...or did they?? wilma

You may have a good point Tom. Anyone, anyone, Ferris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW if you cant get to the ebay link, the one for sale is a rebuilt "811" with a cast date of May 19th and my engine was assembled on May 23rd.

Re: '69 L78 Water Pump rebuild
I know that this doesn't pertain to BB pumps, but I had luck with some reman pumps from NAPA that codes and dates were close for my small blocks. Cheap too. Had one apart to find the cheap finned sheet metal impeller, but oh well. The only reason I went that route was because new pumps would throw pulley alignment out by 1/8 of an inch. Passed that on to my boss when we had to replace pumps. Sorry for the hi jack.
