Usually it is just the strap that comes out of the sender resistor loses contact. You can take the clip off the top of the stud where the sender wire would attach to and clean up the stud and strap and put it back together. You could test it with a ohm meter touch the strap at the bottom of the stud and see if you have continuity and then touch the top of the stud and see.
