Theoretically this is true IF the motor was designed for it, OR is lacking and the pump can make up for this. IF engine has a smaller cam, you can create the vacuum as need there, therefore the Vac pump will do nothing really. AND too much vacuum can/will scavenge oil off rotating parts therefore loosing the film layer. NOT GOOD.

Buddy just built an LS 6.0 with small hyd roller. Made 585 Hp with 16 lbs of vac. So on this the vac pump might have cost Hp for the drive. Most I hear from want vac in the 18-22 lbs range AT RPM
