The defroster ducts that go up to the slots in the dash? The defroster duct should be fastened to the firewall at the bottom of the duct and then two more screws where it Y s at the outlets. The y ducts on non A/C cars never actually attach to the heater box. Kind of tough to get a shot of that with the heater box installed. The Y duct should have a bent. L bracket that is riveted to the bottom of the plastic Y and a screw goes through that. Hope this helps?

So you're saying the y-duct attaches to the firewall and the heater housing just butts against it at the bottom? Thanks -- TAZ

The defroster duct does not attach to the heater box.

Thanks Jed -- I am in the process of installing a complete 79' Nova AC setup in a 71' Nova ... this old fart needs AC here in San Antonio. Your avatar -- one sweet looking Nova. My first was a 70 Cortez Silver Yenko Deuce. But the one that was most fun was a 4dr 64 red/red station wagon. Had a 358, w/4 speed, 3:55 gear. Most fun was messin' with 5.0 Mustangs and late model Z-28s -- the look on the drivers face was priceless after getting whopped. The TAZ
