| 68 Nova dash painting question

Getting ready to repaint my 68 Nova dash top (textured flat black). So, was the VIN plaque on the dash top painted along with the dash top, or was the VIN plaque left bare metal and riveted to the dash top later?

I would think they were installed before paint at the start of the line..prob first thing attached to the new body.

VIN tags were painted in an off-line booth. http://www.camaros.org/assemblyprocess.shtml#chev

All the VIN tags I have ever had, painted black or not, were always a satin or eggshell black, regardless of the color interior. VIN plaque was non textured.

VINS for Norwood Camaros were not installed by Fisher, they were assigned and installed by Chevrolet Assembly, which means they were done long after the body was painted,. Was Willow Run the same or was it a GMAD plant like Van Nuys?

The tags are not textured that I've seen. They are not coated very well either. That's a high moisture area from condensation. They tend to surface rust especially if you wiped the dash area often. Just my observations. |

That should give it the right look! |

I need to paint my dash in my '69 Nova in the next month or so. Its also a standard black interior car. Are the dash colors and textures the same for a '68 as a '69? Any guidance anyone has on which paints (manufacturer and codes) to use for the dash top and dash face would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
