I took a look at the AIM. While there are not very detailed pics, page L48-A3 include a pic that has the rod inserted in the the carb from the fender side. Page L65-A4 also shows the rod going in from the fender side. Rod looks to have a slight bend towards the carb. Page 6-D3 shows a 2bbl rod with a slight bend and mounted from the fender side. View B shows the rubber, plastic coller and cotter pin attachment to the pedel arm. View A on the page shows a C-clip to attach swivel to carb plate. I do not see any different rod used for a manual vs and automatic.

So the big question is, is the rod straight? or slightly bent? (I will have to fix the orientation of my throttle rod )
