| Guide Power Beam to H4

Last year I bought a couple of NOS Power Beams for my 70 Trans Am. I installed them and flipped the switch, ***** as soon as I turned them on one of them fills with gray smoke and burns out. I guess it had a leak in it and the gas leaked out. We all now how expensive these are so I took them out and put them up on the shelf. Then the bulb in my head lit up and I decided that I would convert the bulbs to accept an H4 bulb. My search for a another burned out bulb starts with posting on the "Parts Wanted". I get a couple of responses , Thanks to 74 SD455 Formula from PY and 1bad77ta from TAC. This isn't for everyone but it is a way to modernize those 40 year old AC Guide Power Beams. I ground off the electrical connections, drilled a 5/8 hole in the back of the bulb and remove the old filament from the bulb. I then filled the 3 holes that were for the connection with JB epoxy putty. While I'm waiting for the epoxy to harden I make this nifty bulb mount. I drill and tap the putty for a 4 40 screws and attach the nifty bulb mount. I then using 4 40 screws again I fasten the H4 bulb to the nifty mount. There are many ways of doing this but this was the easiest. All that's left is to install them and light them up. We will see how well they work the first time I get the car out at night. I think I am going to get High Beam Flashed a few times.

Very cool! You are running relays to those bad boys, right?

Was wondering about relays as well. Looked for some no bs info online and can't get a straight answer. What is the amperage draw on an H4 bulb, hi and lo? What is the amperage draw on an old Power Beam?

On the relays....not yet. I have a harness on order, so I will be doing a very stealth install next week. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CERAMIC-H4-HEADL...=item564cf251f2
