| Re: Next Years Power Tour Car

Update.....after measuring everything,I had to modify the trans crossmember to move the mounting pad back 2 1/4 ".....So....How to keep everything else in shape and position on a bent up piece of tubing.......Heres how we did it...If you notice the flame cut ends from the factory.....Converts had a boxed frame so they obviously had to narrow them to fit the narrower frame width......Factory?????? Starting point....... Found some steel in the shop that fit the trans mount pad perfectlly and it raised the end frame mount surfaces off the table, found some steel that fit under the frame mounts and some little gusset pieces to support the mount midway.....now the mounting pad was flat on the spacer, we welded the crossmember to the welding table.......this also kept the mount angle relatve to the frame mounting.... Got out the sawsall and cut the mount section out...... Using the spacer block under the mount pad.....I measured the 2 1/4" and made some side plates to suit and welded everything back together... Took it home to test fit and found out I needed to add a little more clearance (If I was smart I would have brought the mount to the shop instead of leaving it in the garage....Duhhh!!!) Put it in place and the mounting bolts dropped right in.......Lucky!!! Next I'm going to remake the store bought engine/mount plates to raise the engine 5/8" to clear the front frame crossmember....tomorrows project.... The Holley engine/trans pans sit pretty good in the car....... Before Holley came out with this pan, some of the earlier pans used hung down well below the crossmember...... Getting Closer!!

Great fabrication as always Ken! I think we will all enjoy another fabrication story.

Ken, it would look cool if you added another tri-angle gusset and then boxed it in. Then you would have a match look to the front cut angle. Make things more symetrical. Roger
