When I was a kid back in the late 70's through early 80's I used to cruise there with my girl friend(s).

 The official name of the street El Camino Real part of sciencic Rt hwy 1 all the way from SF city to Santa Cruz..

Maybe "coast" was the wrong term. El Camino real is can be HWY 1, 101, or its own road depending on where you are.
