I USED to have a lot of Chevy knowledge stored in my head for things like this but have been away from that and caring about such things for a long time, but here is what I remember from the years that I owned a lot of Corvettes.

The suffix character referred to the h.p. & combinations of other equipment such as T.I. or POSSIBLY trans combinations.

I don't believe that this could be included on a crate/ replacement engine that was not yet installed in a particula vehicle. That should have been stamped on the engine at the time it was factory installed in a vehicle knowing these combinations along with the V.I.N. of the car it was being installed in.

If I am wrong certainly someone more knowledgable on this will correct me.
