how to wire greenline stewart warner tach

hi, i just purchased this greenline tach from a member on here as a working tach. i cannot get it to work. The instructions i got for wiring it are basicly ground/power/- side of coil. I tried that and nothing happens. does this tach need a box? or what am i doing wrong. Also what is the model of this tach. cant find any numbers on the backside or anywhere.
