| L 88 Corvette

I have heard rumors that there were six pre-production 1966 L-88 Corvettes. Is this just a rumor or is there some documentation or VIN numbers supporting this statement and where would I go to check this out? Thanks |

Yes it's true they were built but I've found little on this subject when searching online or asking about the '66 cars myself.. I do know they were sometimes called the '66 L72-B/L88 cars and that Mike Summers had one he ordered through Yenko also that Penske got one too.. Other cars and the six quantity ? ~ Pete -------------------- I like real cars best...the REAL real ones! |

The last time I got involved with these extremely low production Corvettes, I was threatened by an owner. I'm not sure I want to say too much about the 1966 L-88s other than the fact that the one Dick Guldstrand picked up in St. Louis for Roger Penske was a true L-88 (with aluminum heads) and it met the F.I.A. homologation paperwork. That was a special Corvette. I think the jury is still out on the M-22/HD427s. I'm not going to say how they were delivered from the factory, because I don't know. The RPO L-88 (with aluminum heads) was not released until March of 1967, as testing was still being done on the prototypes well into the fall of 1966. That's what I put into my book. A friend of mine has what he claims is an intake from one of the as well as a rollbar. I've seen both pieces but it's been years since I saw them.

Corvette Fever August 1992 and Corvette Enthusiast October 2004 articles contain all I know about the shrouded mystery of these cars.
