That's not a silly question at all.
Yep..it stood for Chevrolet Engine,not COUNTER as so many presume,even though it came OTC.
L stood for Oldsmobile.
K stood for Cadillac.
B stood for Buick.
P stood for Pontiac.
They designated replacement transmissions for above with the letter T.
