I read on one of the Ford sites that the computer set-ups in the cars that have been sold will not be updated till after Ford debuts the factory racers at Pomona, so the factory guys won't have any (unwanted) competition from independents.....
They said the drive-by-wire throttles won't open more than 2/3rds with the factory installed computers.

I went back and read the article again. The factory computers only allow the throttle to open 40 %, not even close to the 2/3rds I posted....

look what won the A/S on wednesday......................

One of the highlights of the 2009 Winternationals was the competition debut of the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet package cars, which were designed specifically for NHRA racing. Four of the new Fords debuted in Pomona, all of which were owned by noted collector Brent Hajek. In a scene reminiscent of the debut of the original Cobra Jet Mustangs in 1968 (when Al Joniec captured the Pomona title) former national champion John Calvert wheeled the new A/Stock entry to a final-round victory against Division 6 racer Tom Gaynor, who fouled.

Here's the quote.....

"Stuff you may not have known

These cars are set for their big public racing debut at Pomona in a couple of weeks, but buyers are already getting them. What’s to prevent someone from stealing Ford’s thunder by getting one on a strip sooner? The computer tune in the car only allows the throttle to open 40 percent currently. After Pomona, all of the owners will receive either an entirely new computer or a flash tuner to fix that problem. Drive-by-wire tech is scary eh?
"

And you can read the story here. http://freiburgersjunkyard.com/blog/...et-No.-17.html

Sorry, but I thought I had read it on a Ford website.

That's not a legal VIN. 1) It doesn't have enough digits to be legal and registerable. 2) It is not in the Federally mandated sequence either. It looks like it simply says its a Ford Racing 500 Cobrajet, car number 018.
