Would be cool to use a oval port tri power intake like was used on the 400hp Corvettes.
I like the power on the torker. The linkage can be a interesting exercise. |

You guys are spot on. The Edelbrock TM2O (first design) and the 2-O are for oval port heads. The TM2R and 2-R are for rectangle port heads.
As Eric stated, the C396 is a great oval port intake for the street. Kurt

Wow! Great response - thanks all. I will pick one up in the near future. My Benjamin has decided that we should fire the engine with the single 4bbl instead of the TR setup. So, we will - hopefully in the Spring.

Checked out the racing junk ad - it was sold, but thanks for the responses and the pics. Now I know what to look for.
I'll take some pic's of the intake that is currently on the engine to see what vintage it is. I'm pretty sure it's an Edelbrock, but after reading up on the performance differences - I want to make sure I don't have the slow one on there! The previous owner of this engine had it in a Gibb/Harrell Nova and I think it was running low 13's - way to slow for this built engine, so I'm thinking the intake was the bottleneck.

well the tri-power would slow it up even more M. MANY reasons out there for the slow et and not just the intake. Cast iron intakes with Q-jets run in the 10's on sb's so I would look else where also. Have fun!

Lot's of guys used the 163 on oval port motors...it sounds strange, but I've heard it worked well. The 163's were plentiful back in the day and probably cheaper than buying an aftermarket unit. I think there are some threads on Team Chevelle somewhere about this application. Might be worth a look....kind of "factory day 2"

Using the square port intake on an oval port head created enough turbulence where they mated to help in atomization from what I was told back in the 80's. I have done it and not sure if it helped but it certainly did not hurt it any.
