I had a black set (Hookers) on my '68 427 Corvette back in the late 70s. As I recall I paid a little over $200 for them. They're still tucked away in the attic of my garage but the collectors are rusted beyond repair. They lasted exactly 13 months! (But in their defense, I drove it in all kinds of weather; even snow.) Slide in mufflers are long gone too. I bought new collectors and thought about repairing them but never did get around to it.
Sure sounded sweet cruising about 60 MPH with a 3.70 gear. ![]() The guy who lived behind me had a chrome set on his '75 Corvette but I'm certain they were NOT Hookers. Custom maybe? Who else made them at that time? ![]()

Clay Smith? I bought my '57 BelAir in '64 and there were decals filling both rear windows of the car. Each side had a huge Woodpecker. Wish they were still there!

Wasn't Mr. Horsepower? Honest Charley used a woodpecker on some of his decals too.

Ole Woody was a pretty popular bird and didn't remember he was used by Clay Smith, & of course I believe he may have been used by ole "Honest Charley" himself? Since sidepipes were the topic of discussion, I was thinking of something else? Man going back almost 40 years, things seem to get into a gray area. I did find what I was looking for, thought for a minute I was going to back up and apologize for being wrong?
