I’ve seen that more than once on Baltimore built Chevelles. This particular car not only has the 8 instead of the B, it also has an 8 instead of a 0 for the model year. My buddy owned a 70 ragtop many years ago that, just by chance, was built on the same day as this LS6. It has the same error, 188 instead of 10B. I would guess all the cars built during that shift were stamped that same way.

FWIW, the engine stamp looks good to me.
