CRN is a Monte Carlo block for automatic. CRT is Chevelle manual trans.... not original.
Which would seem to indicate the vin tag is also from the Monte "donor"...

That’s interesting that the CRN code is Monte specific - many of the online references show it as Chevelle with manual trans. You know what they say about truth on the internet

Must be, or an incorrect block was stamped with this car’s VIN during the build.

The “R” is for Arlington Texas assembly plant. I don’t believe that the 1970 Monte Carlo was built there…….?
