Default 70 SS Wheel paint

Does anybody know of a decent gray (factory type) paint to use on back of the 5 spoke 70 SS wheel.? Ground up doesn't carry it anymore, can't seem to locate any other vendors carrying it. Any help is appreciated. SULLY

Years ago I sent a 70 Camaro jack base to PPG in Cleveland, OH for anaylis as the jack & base appeared to be same color.
PPG came up with a formula number 35517, either in DAU or DAR (DAR they commented, that DXR-80 must be used in color)

FYI The front of 70-74 Z-28 wheels is painted with DDL 32961 LAQUER ONLY No Clear Coat.....Not Very Durable, Will Deteriate with scrubbing and washing.
I had a 70 Z-28 new and expereinced this..............

Ground Up sold Paint HDP #1219.That was a real close match to the real thing.I know they don't carry it anymore.
I saw an off grey shade in a rattle can at Sears years ago that was Damn near the original shade after I sprayed it out..I think it was a Krylon or Rustoleum blend.

Sully, there is a distinct difference between 69 and 70 in the shade of grey. I can't remember which way without checking, but the grey is ligher in color...I think the 70 is lighter..if you want you can use my 70 wheel to compare.

I had spent alot of time at hardware and auto parts stores looking for and buying several rattle cans of gray paint trying to find a close match to the gray paint on the back of the 70 SS wheels but didn't have much luck.
What I was using for a color sample was an unused 70 AO coded wheel that I had for several years.
After spending all that time looking for a somewhat close match I found out that there already was one right under my nose.It turned out that the gray paint that we use at work on the locomotive parts was closer than anything I found at the stores. Is it a perfect match maybe not but I thought it was close enough, It is made by the Carbit Paint Co. in Chicago.
On The rattle can it says speed dry enamel ANSI 61 light gray. They have a retail store in Lombard there address is:
Carbit Paint Co.
210 W. North Ave.
Lombard,IL. zip?

Sully and others, You ask about the "5 Spoke SS wheel". I'm thinking that the SS wheel coded AU 14x7 is not spoked as shown below. The 15X7 Z-28 wheel coded AV is spoked. I do not have a 14X7 wheel to look at, so can not attest to comparing color as shown on Jack Seymour Z-28 survivor, and original jack base. PPG gave me comparison......You did not specify something close in aeresol or a paint you could order and spray with gun........Oh well I tried!!!!!!!

Chuck, the wheel in question is what is commonly referred to as the "5 spoke SS wheel" used on the 70 Chevelle and Nova SS modles only. Not the 70 Z28 wheel (71-72 Chevelle SS wheel also)to clarify. Thanks
