Default '70 #s LS5/4-sp Chevelle

Not a great resto by any means, but appears to have its original CRN LS5 block.

CRN is a Monte Carlo block for automatic. CRT is Chevelle manual trans.... not original.
Which would seem to indicate the vin tag is also from the Monte "donor"...

Has 13637 VIN not 13857

Are we looking at a factory assembly line stamping mistake?

That’s interesting that the CRN code is Monte specific - many of the online references show it as Chevelle with manual trans. You know what they say about truth on the internet

I can imagine one digit wrong but not two (in a fairly random way, ie not a mistake of consecutive numbers).

I meant the CRN versus CRT, did they stamp an N when it should have been T.

Must be, or an incorrect block was stamped with this car’s VIN during the build.

The build date code on the block should have 4 numbers. We only see 2 ...04CRN. Wouldn't that be the month of assembly, as in April ? The build date on the trim tag is 02A
Restamp vin on block ?

Looks like the number 2 before the 04 on the pad. Could be 0204 CRN which would match up with the build date.maybe it was misstamp CRN instead of CRT.
