Default Electrical screw-up

I just replaced the alternator on my 69 Camaro convertible. Bacause of a screw-up in the voltage regulator the alternator put out 24 volts. The car ran about 5 minutes befor I figured it out. Now the headlights are very dim at low beam and only one side works on high beam. I replaced headlights and voltage regulator. I cannot figure out what I blew out. It is acting like the ground blew out somewhere. Any ideas?????
