Removing a powder coated finish
Does anyone have input/ideas as to the best way to remove a powder coated finish? I purchased a set of YH rims for my Camaro that are powder coated..they look good, but the color is a little off, and I'd rather repaint them.
Thanks! Pat |

Find someone that can dip or chemical strip them, thats the easiest. You can some times use aircraft paint stripper on them also. Blasting is tuff to do.

Plastic media blasting.

We just stripped an intake by using aircraft stripper.

Let me ask a stupid question.... why can't you just paint them the correct color right over the powder coat?

Not a stupid question at all.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
It's a matter of the date code stampings on the rims. The powder coating filled in the factory stamped numbers/letters on the rims to the point that you can hardly see them on a couple of the wheels. Between that, and the powder coated color looking more grey than silver, is enough to get me looking at stripping them and starting fresh. Pat |

That makes sense Pat...never dawned on me the code numbers would be filled in. Good luck with the project.

Eastwood has a powder coating stripper.
