cowl tag help
The cowl tag on my 72 Nova SS is very hard to read. It appears to have been sanded by someone when previously painted. I primed and painted the cowl and just made it harder to read. Would it be best to just wipe it clean with thinner/stripper? I'm guessing it can't be repaired. Thanks.

Re: cowl tag help
Before doing the cleaning w/ the thinners thing, does it look at all possibile that a very light flat board hand sanding may still expose only the high spots/raised alpha-numerics of the tag?.
Good luck!. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |
Re: cowl tag help
May give that a try. The numbers and letters look like they have been knocked down somewhat, or mabe just not stamped too deeply.

Re: cowl tag help
Hit it with some scotchbrite, lightly!

Re: cowl tag help
I wouldn't want to put a harsh sanding film to it again.
If it's off the car, soak it in a strong mild solvent like Goof Off. Paint thinner may not be stringent enough. If it's still attached to the car,try soaking a rag/pad the same size of your trim tag in Goof Off and lay/press it on top of it.Put a thick barrier like cardboard around the surrounding area of the TT to prevent it from touching the solvent. You can get a repop replacement from Trim Tags Inc.,but I would'nt replace it no matter how illegible it is,honestly. |
Re: cowl tag help
It's still on the car so, I probably won't replace it. Will try the goof off. Thank You.
