67 Camaro Rag top Conversion
Ok, guys I just purchased this 67 Camaro Conv, it's a 6 cylinder, auto power/glide. I'm pondering to convert this to a 350 - 4spd keeping the 10 bolt rear. Multi leaf rear springs are already on the back of the car. As you can see from the photos the car is in really nice shape. Along with the conversion I would include power brakes to the front and power steering. Looking for some feedback or who may have done this before. Thanx

nice car [/ QUOTE ] I agree with that Very Nice car and for swapping out the 6 for a V8 i would leave it with the 6. Might even find a header for it and do some engine work on it and have some fun with it. You dont see many org straight 6's around anym ore |

Re: 67 Camaro Rag top Conversion
Very nice survivor! When a car is this nice, but the drivetrain is not what you want, my rule of thumb is dont change anything you cannot change back by turning a few bolts. With that in mind, the 4 speed is out, because you have to cut the hump. I would put the 350 in using bolt in parts and upgrade the powerglide to a TH350 or 200r4. That should help the acceleration blues. actually, you could put the 200r4 behind the 6 cyl and getting much better accel and GREAT gas milage and not have to change much at all! Remember to save and tag everything you take off for future owners. Have fun!
BTW, power brakes is a good swap, no too much work, But changing the steering is more involved. If you keep the 6, then the man steering should be fine https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |
Re: 67 Camaro Rag top Conversion
I think you have two otions here.
1. Leave it alone, add disc brakes and enjoy it or. 2. Leave it alone, sell it to me, let me add disc brakes and enjoy it. Very nice original car and you just don't find them like that any more. Great find. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Rick H. |

Just for informaion.
[ QUOTE ] With that in mind, the 4 speed is out, because you have to cut the hump. [/ QUOTE ] That is not true on a 1967 Camaro with floor shift automatic. The hole in the hump is the same one used for both automatics and standard shift. No extra cutting is involved and putting in a 4 speed is a direct swap. The same crossmember is also used. The driveshaft can be used as well. Putting in a T350 is also a direct swap and uses the same crossmember. You can even use the same shifter with the T350. Just needs an extra notch added to the detent bracket. I would leave it alone because of the originality. Rick H. |
Re: 67 Camaro Rag top Conversion
I'm still tossed. I purchased the car right - prior owner won it in a raffle 3 yrs ago sponsored in a small Town by a local Chevy dealer and a radio station. He has since put 1200 summertime miles on it.Under carriage is just as sweet as what you see on top and the originalilty may hold me back from the swap. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif

Re: 67 Camaro Rag top Conversion
a couple of years back I picked up a 65 malibu SS with a 6/pg from its original owner. drove it like that for a while then became bored. removed and wrapped up the six, pg,console, shifter and every nut to return to original. driving it now with 8/4spd,picked up all original shifter pedals console etc so it looks stock. retained manual steering. more fun to drive and dont have to worry about breaking the six trying to keep up with the big boys.
