What did the rear end come out of?

I found a 12 bolt locally. I can't figure out what the codes on the housing match up to. I guessing it's out of a early Camaro. I can't figure it out from the web sites that I have found. I check out this site now and then and figured you guys would know. I'm a hot rodder and not a restoration type of person. I picked up on it because it had a real old Mr Gasket rear end cover on it.
OC 03 2 12 G2 is what I can see. Might be a 1 or I after the C. Leaf spring housing that measures right at 54 inches.

I messed up the stamping numbers:
The correct numbers are QC 03 2 12 G2 from what I can see. Might be a 1 or I after the C

No biggee! I've repaired rings gears just like that by building that tooth back up with some TIG welding and hand-grinding/profiling 'til it's like new! It's a lost art......and me......a lost artist.

I was thinking that it could be fixed if somebody really needed it.What the heck came from the factory with a 4.88 gear in it?I have seen some service replacemnts up to 5.13,but not factory.Maybe an option on a Z or L78?

Re: What did the rear end come out of?

Well I looked at the site posted above. I looked at the rear end some more and you can see evidence of the factory traction bar. About 4 of teeth are chipped that's real bummer. I turned the pinion and it turns over easily. From what I can tell the pinion doesn't have any damage to the teeth. The rear end doesn't look like it's ever been apart. There weren't any of the broken off teeth or parts inside the housing. I wouldn't put the gear in a daily driver for sure. A trailered restoration that only drives in and out a trailer at shows could go a long time with this gear.
This is what I think this rear end is.
QC - 12 Bolt 4.88 gear standard brakes
03 - March
21- 21 March build date
2 Shift code
K176
K - Nov
A - 17th
6 - 1966
So what this rear end is:
1967 Camaro 12 with factory installed 4.88 gears, standard brakes, built on 21 March 1967 on the 2nd shift. The housing was cast on 17 Nov 1966. ???? Something tells me this isn't a 6 cylinder 3 on the tree Camaro rear end. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

The second shift is usually indicated by the 2 following the G...sees like there is one extra number there. Maybe things are different on early Camaros https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif

Might be; this is the first "date code" I have ever tried to figure out. That's why I'm here askingthe pros on this.
