gauge cluster help
My 70 chevelle gauge cluster, water temp guage did not work so
I changed it. the car has a new wiring harness from factory fit, also enjine harness is new. After changing the new GM NOS gauge it still does not work I made sure that the new gauge was installed correctly and there is a new printed circuit installed. I checked the heat plug on the motor its seems to be ok and still the gauge does not work any Ideas on how to fix the problem. Do those heat switches on the motor ever not work?? PJ |
Re: gauge cluster help
Do you have continuity from the engine harness to the gauge?

I have not checked that,But i will what should I expect when I check it. PJ |
Re: gauge cluster help
you should have continuity - so the signal from the engine sensor goes to the gauge. Do you have a wiring diagram for the car - it should show you the wire path from the engine sensor thru the harness and its connectors to the gauge point of contact. Without continuity in the wire - the gauge will never register the temp.
Also - if its a new harness - (i'm just guessing here), but are the harnesses ordered for specific type gauges? First order of business is check for continuity from the point of the engine sensor thru the fuse block to the gauge connection point. |

They are new gauge harnesses in and out. I have checked the gauge itself and there is continuity . I am going to change the switch first. Then I will follow your advice thanks PJ |
