Absolutely love these cars !

A 70 year old Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing in Original unrestored condition.

This 1956 Gullwing is ridiculous with its worn patina inside and out.

The winged body, leather interior and those two bar knock off Rudge Wheels are gorgeous.
Talk about rim stamping information.

Even the luggage with the round chrome bar for strapping is over the top.

WOW!! Very cool!!!!

Hey Ralph,

This particular forum is supposed to be about “Supercar / Muscle car” discussion.

What are you offering here besides a 1999 car.

I could spend a year just cleaning and preserving that car. I'm in love!

Tim,

Only if you preserve the smell of the 70 year old leather interior.

So neat to see all the human touch on the leather from the ingress / egress over the sill to the heavy patina at the ignition key area.

Personally, I wouldn’t touch a thing.
Rare art on wheels.

Tenney,

I’ve seen this one before. A little rougher condition but so cool!

Love that Red interior.

Thanks!

The tilting steering wheel.

Needed for the “In-N-Out” (wink) of the four years of this model.

I should add I'd be thrilled with the job:biggthumpup:

Tyler Hoover of Hoovie's Garage just purchased one of those a couple months ago and had Mercedes do the work to get it running again after it sat for several years, and then took it on a 1,000 jaunt with a bunch of other gullwings. He has some pretty good videos about it on YouTube.

Kristoforus, St. Christopher, is on the key ring. The patron saint of travelers. A lot of German cars from this era included Kristoforus, some are just medallions on the dashboard. Cool stuff!

Probably 30 years ago, I was heading up Victoria Park ave, just north of the 401 in Toronto when I pulled up beside a silver gullwing with very heavily cracked and faded paint. That was the first and only one I've seen and it was just putzing along on the street with regular traffic. Too cool :)

PeteLeathersac 01-14-2026 01:54 AM

It’s been 20+ years since I’ve seen him but I knew an original Gullwing owner in Toronto who regularly drove his car, likely the one you saw Tony. Good guy, one legged S. African if anyone else knows him, probably still has the car today?
:beers:

Just an awesome car…I’d be afraid to touch it. :)

A couple assembly line photos.

Cool vents on the rear roof.

Looks like full upper fender protectors were being used.

I've never seen pictures of the chassis used in the Gullwing ... it appears almost Maserati "birdcage"esque. Thanks for posting those

Tenny,

Yes, I have been in contact with Anne-Claire MANDINE since I found this auction last week. 🤣

Local Chicago folks might recall that Joe Hays had a dark blue one years back, I saw him driving it on the Edens one time, this was about 10 years ago. He had a very interesting collection. I believe he sold it.

I went to InterClassics Car show in Maastricht NL this past weekend. Many, many Super Cars and a few Hyper cars. Here are a few pics I took with my potato camera. As you walked in you were met with 5 Ferrari Dino's worth a few million in total. There was a Koenigsegg Hypercar.
This years theme was Japanese Sports cars. I'll post some of those if you want.
