What is the difference between this Goodyear F 70 15 and the one mr 70 has forsale
|
I believe the wide tread GT was earlier than the polyglass tire

The common use of this tire is E70X15 on 68- 69 Z-28 cars.
Beyond that I know nothing. Pics are one of mine I am going to use as the spare in the 68 SS 396 El Camino I recently bought. Probably not correct but I have it, it is period, in decent shape, the right size and there is no spare. Going on a "XB" wheel. The tire in post 1 is not the early version "POLYGLAS". |

Mine says polyglas the others don't

Looks to me you answered your own question.
Tire I posted is same as his, just different size. Tire Ralph posted is the non- GT version of same type. "SPEEDWAY WIDE TREAD". Yours is a later version of the "POLYGLAS" type. Completely different |

1969 F70x14 Firestone version of Ralphs Vette tire.
Pics 1- 2 show tread on 1969 F70x14 Wide Ovals Pics 3- 6 show sidewall details. Note "DELUXE CHAMPION" on both. Pic 7 shows 1968 version with same tread pattern. Sorry no pic of tread but same as 1969 Note "POLYESTER CORD" on both. Pretty sure 1969 was the last of that? |

As long as it is tire nutso time here is the 1969 Z28 Firestone variant. Not easy to find and no repops.
Pic 1 is the more common "WIDE TREAD GT" GoodYear Pic 2 is the Firestone version "SPORT CAR 200" Both were E70x15. Firestone version has only been observed on 1969 models in my limited experience with these. |
Now, what do we do with all these tires?

Great thread thanks for posting all the samples!!!

A lot of the nice originals are blems that's why they are still around

I am sure that BLEM stamp could be filled in.

Boy do we wish "OLE BLUE' was a Goodyear car.
Just found a full [4] NOS set of the 69 type Goodyears. Anywayz here are examples of 69 type F70x14 Goodyears. Never been on wheels. Last pic is "OLE BLUES" spare. 1969 type Firestone. |
My 2 cents.......worked for Goodyear (retail & wholesale) from '71-'73. The Goodyear Polyglas was largely promoted for it's mileage enhancements. We began to sell some Polyglas as it made its entry but they were an expensive tire for those days as was Firestone's version.....they were both always hard to keep balanced and often "cupped". It was always a battle between the two with Goodyear having the edge. Didn't sell too many to muscle car owners as it was out of the budget for most and for that audience it was more about looks (RWL & size) not mileage. Once in awhile we would get some 60 series RWL Polyglas and we'd all asked what the heck do you put these on? Would get some blems once in awhile and they were less $$ and would usually go fast. Don't remember them ever being an OE tire.
Then the Michelin radial tire entered the war (via Sears primarily) and handling and comfort seized many higher end buyers. Polyglas and its brothers soon began the trend downward. |
Having owned a new 1969 Corvette that had the nylon cord tires I remember trying the polyglas and they rode much harder than the nylon cord I did not like them it felt like you had 40lbs of air in the tires

Found this info on Goodyears
Seems the NOS tires are Oct 68 Mar 69 May 69 Jun 69. All same plant [5] GAD also. "OLE BLUE' is a Feb 69 Baltimore car. AND it came with Firestones. Friend suggested using the 68 dated one on her spare wheel and calling it a Goodyear car. NOT happening here. The other 3 are newer than car anyway. Anybody have any NOS 69 Firestones? Pics 2- 3 are her spare. Pic 4 is 68 dated ad for 69 cars showing both brand tires. May trade for Firestones but these will not be for sale. Already know where they will end up if it goes that way. VERY deserving car and totally proper down to dates. Best part is they were less than half the cost of repops:grin: |

Off point but fits with my postings. Research info on Firestones.
Seems "000", "001" and "002' are normal prefixes on these 66- 70 tires. Typo but second LETTER "L" seems to be 1969. Makes sense on these 2 tires. Pic 1 is her spare. "000" 3rd week Feb Baltimore car. All 5 wheels are 1 6 9 dated. Second and third pics are the spare in a late Baltimore Malibu. Last pic is from research data I found. What say you?? PS Looks like we are looking for "000" prefix Firestones with last letter "L". Last letter "C" would be possible also. |
