Kentucky man finds over 700 Civil War-era coins buried in his cornfield

Quote:
According to the Numismatic Guaranty Co. (NGC), which certified the coins' authenticity, and GovMint, where the coins were sold, 95% of the hoard is composed of gold dollars, along with 20 $10 Liberty coins and eight $20 Liberty coins. The rarest is the 1863-P $20 1-ounce gold Liberty coin. Just one of these coins can go for six figures at auction, and the Great Kentucky Hoard boasts 18 of them. NGC's website notes that the $20 Liberty coin, which circulated from 1850 to 1907, was minted by the Treasury Department after gold was discovered in California. The $20 Liberty coins in the hoard are even rarer because they do not include "In God We Trust," which was added in 1866 after the end of the Civil War.

Quote:
The aircraft reached speeds of Mach 6 and reached altitudes of 250,000 feet along the “edge of outer space,”as described by aerospaceweb.org

The aerospaceweb.org article says that in 1967, the X-15 reached what was at the time a world record speed of 4,520 miles per hour, making it the highest speed ever recorded by a crewed, powered aircraft.

The USS Constitution: The World's Oldest Ship Still Afloat

Quote:
Shortly after the adoption of the U.S. Constitution, the U.S. Navy was founded. At about the same time, the construction of naval ships commenced, including the USS Constitution, which still exists today.

From soda can tabs to the tiny tables that hold up our pizza boxes, the world is filled with little technologies that make our lives easier. Take, for example, the humble packaging used to hold meat at the grocery store. It may appear to just be a styrofoam shell and plastic wrap, but if you look closer, you'll notice another vital component. Under the ground beef or chicken breast lies a thin, absorbent pad that actually serves a few key functions when it comes to food safety.

The aim of this thin pad, which for better or worse is also known as a meat diaper, is to keep the meat safe. When raw meat sits around, it can expel liquid which may appear red, but this is natural and not a cause for concern. What is concerning is that the liquid can be filled with dangerous bacteria. If the meat stays in this liquid for too long, it can create more bacteria, so the meat diaper absorbs the liquid to keep everything fresh for longer.

1962 Oldsmobile F-85 Jetfire Turbo Wagon

Exactly what is an Oldsmobile F-85 Jetfire wagon? Well, to start, it's a one-year-only, five-door spinoff of the 1961 Cutlass (F-85). And it bears the name "Jetfire," thanks to a 215-cubic-inch, 215-horsepower (300 lb-ft of torque), all-aluminum Oldsmobile Jetfire Turbo-Rocket V-8 engine that was designated exclusively for 1962/1963 F-85 sport coupes and convertibles, and 1962 station wagons. A BorgWarner four-speed manual transmission completed the unique cars' dynamic drivetrain.
