This attractive 1968 Buick GS 400 Convertible is one of only 2,454 built and was fully restored to enjoy. It’s loaded with options including a power top, power steering, power windows, power brakes and air conditioning. It’s powered by its original matching numbers 400/340HP V8 engine and B2 Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. In 1968 and 1969 Buick offered the GS 400 Coupe and Convertible model. A total of 10,743 coupes were built and a total of only 2,454 Convertibles were built. The GS 400 models were equipped with a 400ci engine (with likely lower stated horsepower rating to keep insurance premiums lower) of 340HP and 440ft. lbs torque, a four barrel Rochester Quadrajet carburetor, dual exhaust and available 3-speed Turbo Super Turbine 400 automatic transmission (revered as the finest automatic transmission ever built and commonly called the Turbo Hydra-Matic 400). A 1968 or 1969 GS 400 equipped with the TH400 auto transmission was faster off the line than many of its contemporaries thanks to an unusually “low” 1st gear. As the VIN number and Body Plate indicate this example was built on the third week of July in Flint, MI as a 1968 Buick GS 400 2-door Convertible with a Teal Blue Mist exterior and blue interior. From the information gathered this car was a barn find that was stored since 1979. A documented frame off restoration was completed in 2015. The car currently has 73,819 original miles and less than 5000 miles since completion of the restoration. MS CLASSIC CARS acquired the car in September of 2021 from the Bryan Frank Collection. MS CLASSIC CARS started the service process in January of 2023 and completed in it February of 2023. This is the first time it’s been listed for sale.

The exterior of this car is in beautiful condition throughout. The body is very straight with very nice body gaps. The hood, doors and trunk close tight. During the restoration the decision was made to change the original color of Teal Blue Mist to the more desirable and correct color of Scarlet Red. The paint is show quality and was recently detailed to a brilliant shine by MS CLASSIC CARS. The car was outfitted with a new black power convertible top with glass window. The front windshield was replaced new. All of the remaining original glass has the factory Soft Ray stamps and is in overall good condition considering the age. Everything on the exterior has been restored or replaced such as the glass trim, wipers, antenna, driver’s side mirror, hood trim, headlights, front grill, front bumper, door handles, front fender vents, emblems, parking lights, fender trim, tail lights and rear bumper. The original 14” wheels were upgraded to 15” Buick Rallye wheels which required spacers. The wheels are wrapped new with Firestone Super Sport F70-15 redline tire that were purchased in 2021.

The interior of this car is also in beautiful condition throughout. It’s extremely spacious and comfortable which makes driving a breeze especially with the top down (no pun intended). During the restoration the decision was made to change the original color of blue to the more desirable and correct color of black. It features front bucket seats split by a center console. Additional amenities besides the power convertible top include factory air conditioning, power windows and remote driver’s side mirror. MS CLASSIC CARS added a new Custom Autosound stereo with dash dual speaker. Everything in the interior has been restored or replaced such as the rear view mirror, sun visors, dash, gauges, door sills, door panels, door handles, vent cranks, seats, seat belts, carpeting and pedals. MS CLASSIC CARS restored the stylish 3-spoke black steering wheel which is fitted ahead of the instrumentation consisting of a fuel gauge, a clock, warning lights and a 120MPH horizontal-sweep speedometer. The five-digit odometer shows 73,819 miles which is believed to be original. Everything in the interior is in working order with exception of the clock. The spacious trunk compartment was nicely restored with the correct splatter paint. It has a correct style trunk mat but no spare tire or jack tools.

The engine compartment is nicely detailed throughout. The firewall, inner fenders and radiator support were re-painted black. The car is powered but its original matching numbers 6.6L 400 V8 engine with four barrel Rochester Quadrajet carburetor. Photos of the engine stamps are included in the gallery. From the information gathered the engine was serviced but didn’t require rebuilding. The engine is dressed with wrinkled red valve covers and black air cleaner. The engine runs excellent and was recently serviced by MS CLASSIC CARS. It breathes through factory manifolds and a new dual exhaust system that sounds sweet. The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers B2 Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. From the information gathered the transmission was serviced but didn’t require rebuilding. The transmission shifts smoothly. The power is transferred to the “B-O-P” 10-bolt open rear end with 2.93 gears. The car is equipped with factory power steering which works great.

The undercarriage is nicely detailed throughout. The underside and the frame were re-painted black. The steering system, suspension component, braking system and fuel system was restored or replaced during the restoration. An owner’s manual is included.
