Racing fuel and a real cowl tag...

I don't know if others do what I do, but I like to go visit the fuel pump at 7am on a Sunday morning when no one is around.
I am not sure how many have pumps near their home. Not a lot around the burbs in Chicago I think, so I am a bit lucky with the one near me.

I took a few shots waiting for them to open. I also finally took a picture of my cowl tag and noticed the characters are stamped at different depths. Someone should track real cars against those being considered as real, as I would suspect tags with same depths if all characters are the same. I never noticed it until now. Mopar fender tags show the same behavior (if real).

Where is that? Only places I know of close with 100 octane at the pump are the Citgo stations in Bensenville and Roselle. Same $6.99 in B-Ville but usually $1-2 more at Roselle.

I was stunned when our Deltasonic here in Downers Grove stopped selling 100 octane non leaded for $8 a gal.almost 2 years ago. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/frown.gif[/img]
I then found a CITGO in Glendale Heights @ 1458 Bloomingdale Rd.,just north of North Ave.that sells 110 octane leaded for $6.59 a gal. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/laugh.gif[/img] ,but for only 6 months,then they switch the pump over to Kerosene.
This shit really wakes up your car,especially after Eric rebuilds your carburetor.
The next closest after that is the SpeedWay in Willow Springs,selling 100 octane leaded for $8 a Gal.

Thanks for that link Rick. I found a place that's a little closer to me that I didn't know about. It appears they have the SS100 California blend. I'll be checking it out.

I always visit the gas pumps by 6:30- 7:00 on Saturday morning Bob. Way to hard to take a nice ride by 8:00 am around here. I drop in about 3-4 gallons of 112 from my can and go to the Luke Oil and finish it off with some 93. Runs good with no issues winter or summer. Best time to cruise is early mornings.

I don't take my car to that particular station.I bring five empty 5 gal. tanks instead.I see way too many F****** nut jobs with their heads down staring @ their electronic devices behind the wheel on the way there.

Elgin Mobil, On Mclean ave just off lake street (20). Kinda a crappy gas station, but my car loves the fuel. I tried running it on Shell 93 nitro gas, and it then runs 10 degrees or so hotter and sometimes runs on. When I run it on pure race gas, it runs cool and shuts off fine.

Do not fill any vehicles up at any station while the fuel trucks are there replenishing the underground tanks ...as they fill those tanks it stirs up any sediment (junk) and you could be the recipient of fuel that you don't want .

True..two people I knew with 5.7 liter IROC Camaros both had that happen to em after filling up while the tanker was there.
Both had engines stalled within minutes of leaving the station.
Later they contacted the gas station,and after showing the receipt w/time stamp,the tow charge and the mechanics estimate to fix it,the stations paid them.

Geez, I gotta travel 75 miles to get to my nearest station with 100 octane. That sucks!!!
