Default 66 GTO w/ Column Shifted 3 Speed Manual

https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0122-48...6-pontiac-gto/

Anyone else see this at Mecum Kissimmee last Friday? I couldn't believe they made such a thing, but evidently it was a special order. Crazy.

Default BLACK and BLUE.

I’ve had a folder on this ‘66 for many years. Very unique GTO.

I’m not sure of the build date of this car, but it has a 1965 aluminum fuel line from carb to front of the intake that may point to a very early build ‘66.

No power brakes, but it has the stainless trim on the pedals that would have come with a Power Brake car.

You can see the extra wire harness for the Transistor Ignition along the LH fender skirt.

The 1991 magazine article shows Rally I wheels on the car then.

412 GTOs were built in this configuration, including 12 with Tri-Power. Mike Noun found the numbers in old docs.

412 with 3-on-the-tree? Wow, that's amazing. Not that I'm too familiar with GTOs, but I had always been under the impression that any manual trans GTO's came with a floor shift.

For most years, it's on the floor.

That's wild, could you even shift something like that competitively?

Probably not.

But - back in the early 60's, before Hurst floor shifters were commonplace, Royal would put a steep rear gear in the car. That allowed them to launch in second gear, and pull straight down into third for their only gear change during the run.
