1967 Shelby GT500 with 427 & Webers

1967 Shelby GT500 #1732
-Delivered new in PA as a Lime Gold/Black GT500 4-speed
-Bought in 1971 by two teenage brothers who modified it for street racing immediately. Untouched, unrestored since those modifications occurred.
-Modifications List: 1965 dated 427 Side Oiler, Medium Riser Heads, Ansen scattershield, Slapper bars, driveshaft safety loop, side exhaust, C8ZX style deep sump oil pan, painted a 1968 Galaxie metallic Brown with black Le Mans stripes, and, most importantly, fed by the earliest set of 48IDA webers in existence in the world atop a Holman/Moody intake.
-All original sheet-metal, no rust, and all original fiberglass and other Shelby-specific parts are present on the car save for items replaced by the modifications.
Today the car survives as a truly untouched, "day 2" car retaining the same paint job and all modifications it received in 1971. This is a well known car to this day in the PA Shelby circles as it was a known terror on Front Street back in the day. Ran an 11.15 on street tires in 1971.
The Webers......as mentioned above, the set of webers on this car are the earliest full set of Weber 48IDAs in the world. For the sake of education on the carbs, Shelby American was sent the first 190 weber IDA carbs in 1964 to be used on their race cars including FIA Cobra Roadsters, Daytona Coupes, USRRC roadsters, and later GT40s. The set present on this car are serial numbers 12, 21, 22, and 24. Of all the early webers in existence, the only other individual carb which exists as early as any of the carbs in this set is #17 which is currently on the Ken Miles "heim joint" Cobra (CSX2431) in the Shelby American Collection in Boulder. There are no full sets in existence dating as early as this set. In addition, the "throats" of the carbs are hand numbered 1-8 on the main bodies as well as the tops...likely so that Shelby American mechanics could easily take them apart, rebuild, and put them back together in the right order between races. What I am getting at by explaining the carbs is that this isn't your normal set of weber carburators...they are pieces of Shelby American history...these actual carbs likely fueled one of Shelby American's most important racing cars in the chase for the 1964 and 1965 FIA World Manufacturer's Championship for GT cars. One can't help but imagine what legendary racing drivers once worked the throttles on these carbs. In correspondence with the rarity of the carbs...similar sets of early webers like these rarely change hands but, when they do, they have traded DEEP into the 5 figures.
Finally, this car drives incredibly. The car has never been disassembled and restored so it drives factory tight...combined with the insane power of the 427 fed by the webers....the car drives like every 8 year old imagines a 67 GT500 would actually drive....and a LOOOONG ways from the reality of how stock GT500s drive."
