They share the same center section, which is what the casting number is from. You'll have to look for other cues as to what the entire unit originally came out of. Look for a series of stamped numbers on the pass side axle tube, facing forward. There's a 2 or 3 digit letter code that will designate the original application and gear ratio.

Some late 69 Camaros got this center section as well.

Thanks for the information fellows. I am told it was in a 71 Nova, just not sure it was original to that car. Are the external dimensions the same as for the 67-69 12 bolts for Camaro's and Nova's, if in fact it was in a Nova? The letters for the application are not readable on the tube.

The '70 Camaro rear was wider than the '69 version by about an inch and a half I believe. However, the '70-'72 Nova rears were still the same as the '69 Camaro, I don't know the measurements off hand. The code usually is sufficient, but if it's not legible - gotta get the tape measure out

The spring perches are in different locations on a 70+ camaro vrs a 70 nova. I seem to remember that 12 bolts in 71 camaros were early, then they went to the 8.5 corporate 10 bolt. I don't remember 12 bolts in 71 novas, but I expect they used any they had left over.

While on the subject, will the 10bolts they put in the later Novas sill bolt up to the 69 Camaros/Novas?
