All Metal Canada Metallic Brake Shoes??
Anybody know anything about these? FMS 280

What size are they? What are they supposed to fit?

280 brake shoe should be 11 x 2, according to FMSI. 280 numbered shoes were commonly used on 60's and early 70's Chevy trucks, but the the same steel backer may work for other applications too.

Did pickups come with metallic brakes shoes from the factory as an option?

I don't believe trucks used metallic brake shoes, but Corvette and full size cars did. I put metallics on my 1957 Corvette in 65, and a rural mail carrier I knew bought a new 1964 Bel Air and ordered it equipped with metallic brake shoes.
FRICTION MATERIALS STANDARDS INSTITUTE brake catalogs group like metal cores together in the picture section in the rear of their catalogs. When I worked parts, we had 'can use' brake interchanges and would substitute when we were out of a particular number. I wouldn't doubt that a 280 steel core and a 228 steel core could be interchanged. Truck 11x2 shoe number was 280, car 11x2 shoe number was 228. Many times the only differences might be that one has an extra hole that the other doesn't. Other times the web (the flat part of the metal) had a different thickness. Sadly, I don't have an old FMSI catalogs to look those shoes up.

I just compared them to a set of non-metallic NOS Corvette and passenger car shoes that I have and the cores are the same except a few cosmetic differences. Same size. Same hole pattern and number of holes.
So these would be aftermarket shoes for a Corvette and Chevrolet passenger car I guess. |

Found information that metallic brake shoes were available at least from 1961 on passenger cars. Those 280 brake shoes are 11x2 (same size as 228 brake shoes), which are used on the rear of 1959 through 1970 full size Chevrolet cars, and the front of 1955 through 1957 Chevrolet passenger cars.

My '65 GTO came equipped with the metallic brake option.
I do not recall that pickups had a metallic brake offering. K
