House of Speed-Queens NY
In trying to find more history on my SC Rambler, I came across the name of an old speed shop that at least 1 of the old owners used to hang out at.
Owned by a man named(or nicknamed) Spiro, he owned House of Speed in Queens, possibly Astoria. I can’t find much online but know that Spiro owned a 65 Chevelle named Barbara Ann and raced in NYC in the 70’s and 80’s. The rear of my SC Rambler actually tore out during a hole shot against Spiro around 1985. Does anyone happen to have more information or pics of this speed shop? At Carlisle a couple guys from Queens told me Spiro is still around, I’d love to speak with him if he remembers my car or any information about racing around NYC back then. Though the name is different, I think this is an old picture of his Chevelle. I wonder if it’s a Z16 car.

Picture taken at Astoria Park. RFK bridge in foreground. Called Triborough bridge at time of the picture. Hell Gate bridge, for Amtrak trains in background.

My SC Rambler also used to hang out in Astoria park. I hold out hope someone has a picture of a tubbed SCRambler from around the same time/area.

Check out this link http://www.connectinghighway.com/. I don't know how much activity is on the site but anyone who owned a speed shop in Queens back in the day raced at Connecting Highway. The '65 Chevelle pic you posted is on the site. There's a note on the picture saying the car was Jimmy Ahearn's.

I tried emailing that website but the email address is dead and comes back undeliverable. I wonder if Spiro is the nickname of Jimmy Ahearn.

The site did say join on Facebook. At one time all of Astoria was Greek LOL. The OO of my 70 Chevelle was from a neighborhood by Astoria. Northern Queens was a big car scene.

The Facebook link is dead too, even though I don’t have facebook. However here’s a video I found showing Astoria in the 80’s and has both Spiro and the House of Speed in it. It’s a tiny speed shop. But I’m still looking for a way to contact anyone from there that might remember my car
