A stuntwoman,Susan actually approached Spielberg as a stranger,and dictated how this scene should be done.He took a great chance on her unique graphic idea,and he never regretted it.
Till this day,it still sticks with Millions of people without ever showing any blood or gore.After her opening scene was done,she enjoyed it so much,she wanted to continue to be in the movie as a background extra but Speilberg said,"you can't,your Dead".
Ranks as the most memorable Death scene in any movie,even moreso than the Shower scene in Psycho.
Susan Backlinie died from a heart attack at her home in Ventura,California on May 11, 2024,at the age of 77.
