Strange mix of parts. The side cover and tail casting are from a 1965 Muncie. The case casting date is Aug. 29, 1968.
The "13" is (1)Chevy,"3" (not 8) Chevelle, "B" Baltimore, MD assembly plant, 114807 is the VIN, and 3925660 was used for all Muncie 4 speeds. As they say, parts is parts.
Thanks to Covin's Chevrolet by the Numbers.
Andy

Mark, sounds like you have a can of worms there. Main case assembled 1968 model year put in a Chevelle, with a 1963 1/2-1965 707 side cover with a 429 tail housing 1964-mid 65 Chevys and also Pontiac A-body's thru the 1970 model year.
But all these parts will work together, as long as the gears and sycro are in good shape.
The number of rings on the input can usually tell the gear ratio...Hope this helps...Crash

I would agree with the partial Vin being "18", "1" for Chevrolet and "8" for 1968 model year.

OK. I can see your point. The VIN on the car itself would be 13xxx8Bxxxxxx. As we all noticed, this tranny was not put together at the factory like this.

The A B C ratio indicator didn't start to be used until the 1969 model year (Oct 21 1968)... Crash
