Default Just a Chevelle Question

----In 1967 on a Chevelle when you ordered disc brakes you got rallys with short hats and trim rings. Was that the only wheel combo you could get with disc brakes? Would there have been any steel wheel combo, like with the great mag wheel hubcaps?......Bill S

Hi Bill,

I just happen to have a 67 Chevelle sales brochure on hand....under the list of available options at the back of the catalog it says: "Front Disc Brakes. These special brakes are available on all Chevelle models, for above-normal braking requirements. Integrally cast cooling fins force air between disc surfaces, keeping them cooler and fade-resistant. Available with power brakes only. Includes special hubs and wheel trim rings." This is all directly underneath a picture of a rally wheel with the short hat and trim ring, with a thin white stripe tire mounted.

So, I guess the answers to your questions are yes and no, respectively.

I would think that the reason for the rally's was the 4 piston calipers will not fit the other rims so the special rally rim is designed for the 4 piston only. My 67 Nova is a factory Disc and the DA rally's are only ones that will fit. You could use 69 calipers on the XA rims but not 4 piston calipers. Same will go for the 67-68 Camaro but not sure on the 68 Chevelle.

Well -- it's been many moons, but when I bought a new SS396 67 Chevelle, I believe it had disc brakes including the "mag appearing" hub caps. TAZ

Default Just a Chevelle Question

'

Not sure on the '67 F and A-body vehicles but this was the exact situation w/ the full size B-body Chevrolets and Disc Brakes = Rally rims for '67 model year only.

----Thanks for all the input, everyone!

----Craig,,,I also bought a 67 SS with disc brakes new but bought it off the lot. Had it about a year. It had rallys, but I would like to change the look on a 67 a bit and thought that the mag caps and pinstripe white walls would look cool. I just bought a single 14"/7" wheel off of Tony (Scunzio) from a 67 GTO that came with disc brakes and hubcaps, so there are wheels out there that would work. I'm just not sure they ever came delivered on a new 67 Chevelle......Bill S

U can pop a mag hubcap right over the disc brake rally wheel no problem with all the trim removed and iam sure people did that. But from the factory only the rally wheel came with the disc brake option in 67 as far as i know..
