Default EDB 30174 carrier

I have a 12 bolt A body axle for my Chevelle and took the carrier out several years ago to change the ratio. I'm having a buddy reassemble it tomorrow and looked it over to make certain I had all the parts. When I saw the carrier number and the small window, it triggered some vibrations in the cob webs about this style used on the COPO's. After doing a search and reading past information it unfortunately, doesn't appear to be one. Still a good carrier for some fun and abuse.

I couldn't find a stamp on the ring gear but the inspection stamp is the same as the pinion.

That one has the standard 200 pound preload springs and thin plates. I've seen a thousand of these Eaton units and I've only seen one 30174 that didn't have the square hole.

Thanks Freddie, I figured it wasn't anything special but a guy can always hope, eh...
My buddy put it back together with the original shims and the backlash checked good, so ready to go, well almost, needs shoes and wheel cylinders...
I bought new axle bearings at NAPA and they are .001-2 smaller diameter and fit loose in the tube. He wasn't happy with that, so we put the old ones back, that really weren't bad, I was going to replace as a cautionary measure.

I kept telling him it was only going to go a couple miles anyway.... 1/4 mile at a time....

A few years ago I would have told you that all of the 174 cases had the small square window.
