John, your 4P car is the first one I’ve ever had a chance to look at in detail so I wasn’t aware of of the no black tail panel deal.Thanks for sharing these pics with all of us.
Does it still have the square single traction bar or did it ever have one?

I’m seeing a difference in stripe emblem placement ? Is it an optical illusion? The SS emblem on the original paint Camaro butts up to the body line and the stripe is well below the body line. On the white ‘67 the stripe butts up to the body line and the emblems are well above the body line. But yes laid out in similar fashion.

The confusion was probably at the assembly plant. A friend knows of at least one early L78 that received a blacked out tail pan sometime after the bumper was on and trunk weather strip installed.

John your car sure appears to be original paint and it just slipped through without anyone catching it. Not common, but understandable for an early L78.

Here's what I know of the 4P L78 cars. 10 are known and there are two more that appear to be added L78 engines. Several of the 10 are block or docs only, so no vehicle data.
The first cars were the pacers.
The first L78 for public sale was Jenkin's car.
The only non-IPC cars that are known to exist are:
Jenkins
John's blue car
Mark's old red car
White convertible that Richard knows about.

there was what we felt like a real one on ebay a number of years ago. It was in NJ so Phil Bate and I took a ride over to check it out. It had all the signs of being a 4p l78. I think it was early an april car and had all the big block heater core and frame mounts with the 4p code. I think it was black. He may have put it in his reg. as a possible car. I will have to find out

I don't know how they handled the paperwork, but a guy from Grump's shop went to the Tech Center to pick up the car and drove it back to PA. Had to be a long cold trip with no heater, 4.56 gear, and in March.

If the work was already done to your satisfaction, then I'd leave it, but since it needs work no question return the wheel tubs to stock configuration.
