I recently watched an episode of Chasing Classic Cars where a red ZL1 was sold out of the Milton Robson collection. The car didn't have the original engine in it but, after the car was sold, the owner of the original engine was said to have approached the new owner and offered to sell him the motor. This wouldn't happen to be that car would it?

Yes, Milt had HO #63, sold by RM auction at his house. Car went to Canada, but it's original engine may still be here in GA, unless they worked out a deal

The one I am referring to was definitely red; at least they referred to it as red in the show. The same guy bought his 1970 RA IV Judge convertible and I just assumed the buyer was from Connecticut where Wayne Carrini lives.

Original ZL-1 engine has been rebuilt & re-installed by Camaro Hi-Perf Inc.

Milt sold 3 RA IV Judge verts and his Hugger Orange ZL-1 #63 at his house thru RM. We were there & there were no red Camaro's. There was an FG Yenko with mostly original paint and day2 mods that sold around 280.
If it's the same auction, it was probably just an error by the announcer. I think Milt owned #63 twice. He sold it to Mike Lowe (owns Jasper Jeep) then bought it back in a 3 car deal which included a Air Box Corvette & Plum Crazy Hemi Challenger convert
I'm pretty sure that the Red clone being discussed her was built in Ga by Johnny Norell. I remember seeing it parked next to a clone of #51 that his dad owned and discussing that the red one had a real vin'd block in it. They were both nice looking cars. Johnny later found a very cool ex-race barn find COPO that he still takes to shows & local cruise ins

Not in Canada. I know the owner. Where is the original motor?!

The original engine is in the car, they were reunited post auction. The story goes the owner of the engine had found the car but hadn't bought it yet. Shared the story with Milt & Milt went & bought it. As long as the car was in Milts hands, the motor would not be in it. When the buyer won the auction, the owner of the engine approached him and soon thereafter a deal was struck.

Jerry MacNeish rebuilt & re-installed the original engine, it now resides here in CT.
